What is clinical research?

To researchers planning clinical research

Among all types of medical research conducted with the objective of understanding a disease and improving its diagnosis and treatment, clinical research is that which is done on human subjects (both as study samples and sources of information) (it includes interventional and observational studies).

We shall explain here the procedure used in our hospital for conducting investigator-initiated interventional clinical research that is slightly different from clinical trials and clinical research undertaken as a part of advanced medical research.

Please note that “Ethical Guidelines on Medical and Health Research on Human Subjects” would apply to all clinical research approved by the Director of the Hospital or the Dean, Graduate School of Medical Sciences from April 1, 2015 onwards.
